Founder/ Trustee

Growing up, Rhodes family events and reunions like weddings, Christmas and birthdays were celebrated with whole hog roasts and Koye's love for barbecue was cemented. Fondly called "the Pitmaster" by close pals, Koye was further trained under full disclosure principles by Mike "the Legend" Mills and thereafter founded Rhodes BBQ Shack in England in 2003. TIME OUT LONDON rated it 4 stars as one of the best barbecue restaurants in London. Rhodes BBQ Shack Lagos carries on the founding heritage of a true and authentic barbecue experience.

Founder/ Trustee

Nigeria's “Banker by day, Pitmaster by night” is self-taught and specializes in live fire and low & slow cookery, outdoors! AGK literally travels the world for barbecue and regularly embarks on barbecue pilgrimages. He has attended numerous food festivals including Meatopia UK, Oyster South Atlanta, GTBank Food & Drink, and The Jack Invitational in Tennessee; plus countless private feasts. He is super passionate about the art and science of authentic barbecue, and also designs and builds custom barbecue pits (ok, grills) and outdoor kitchens.

Pitmaster Tiso
Founder/ Trustee

Tiso, known to his friends as Ossy, graced the Nigerian barbecue scene with his fiery grilling prowess. He has been in the game for over eight years and has become a well-established figure within the authentic barbecue community. Mentored one-on-one by Bryan Furman in Atlanta, Tiso has dabbled in everything from chicken to brisket, and with an unwavering passion for whole hogs and cows. In 2018, Ossy traversed the US South in ten days mapping out a barbecue trail and has gained quite a reputation and following ever since attending

Meatopia 2024

Meatopia takes place each year at the hallowed London location of Tobacco Dock, Shadwell and is the only food festival that curates the entire menu. First, hand selecting the wish list of chefs, and then by visiting them and tasting the dishes in advance. It is a weekend-long love affair with food, drink, fire and music.

TIME - To barbecue like a pro, always start with quality ingredients, master the heat zones of your grill or smoker, and practice patience for the perfect outcome.

TRADITION - Any hardwood local to your environment is a great choice. Hickory, oak, cherry, apple, or any red tinged wood are popular choices for smoking, imparting rich flavours that complement a variety of meats, fish and vegetables.

TRADITION - Low and slow is the way to go! Also, use a meat thermometer for precision cooks, and let the meat rest sufficiently before slicing for juicy, flavorful results.

TECHNIQUE - Prevent flare-ups by trimming off excess fat, monitor grill temperature, and have a spray bottle of water handy for flare control. Regular degreasing of your grill/ smoker is also advisable.

TEMPERATURE - Preheat the grill, oil the grates, and resist the urge to move the food too soon for those Insta-worthy sear marks.
